State of Tennessee licensing
Since 2006 Brookhaven Retreat has been licensed by the State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities for the following:
- Adult Alcohol and Drug Residential Detoxification Treatment
- Alcohol and Drug Residential Rehabilitation Treatment
- Mental Health Crisis Stabilization Unit
- Mental Health Adult Residential Treatment
Brookhaven Retreat undergoes a thorough review from the State of Tennessee annually to ensure that we meet the quality standards set forth by the state.
Joint Commission
Brookhaven Retreat is Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations (Joint Commission), which has surveyed this organization and found it to meet the requirements for accreditation.
Joint Commission accreditation is nationally recognized as the Gold Seal of Approval in Health Care. The Joint Commission conducts regular on-site reviews every year and a half to three years. The Joint Commission assists Brookhaven Retreat in aspiring to best practices through ongoing support, training, a diversity of materials, inspection and a support representative.
Annually Brookhaven Retreat completes a Periodic Performance Review through Joint Commission to ensure that we are following their standards and guidelines.

TOSHA
Brookhaven Retreat has been awarded a Certificate of Participation for a Health Consultation Inspection by the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) Division and the Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Brookhaven Retreat receives an annual inspection from a TOSHA representative and in April of 2010, our inspection was reported as "No fault" by the inspector.
Safety Inspection
Brookhaven Retreat maintains strict standards of safety and cleanliness in its facility to ensure the health and comfort of clients and staff. Brookhaven Retreat's most recent State of Tennessee safety inspection report reflects these efforts, with the fire marshal saying "Brookhaven Retreat continues to set the 'Standard of Excellence' in fire and life safety, records and documentation and environmental concern for their residents and staff."
